Since our initial meeting on 7th April 2024, the new Officers and Members of the Society have…

1) Mended the horse manure bin opposite the main gate and received a delivery of horse manure for the use of all allotment holders.

2) Challenged the fact that Sapling Road Allotment Society pay the electricity bill for the Community/Amenity Hut. Bolton Council have agreed to pay all future electricity bills associated with the Community/Amenity Hut.

3) Applied for and received a free 1 ton bag of compost, which was delivered to the top of the site yesterday. The compost being for the good and benefit of all allotment holders.

4) Applied to Bolton Council for a load of road planings for the repair of the allotment roads. The road planings will be delivered within the next two weeks. The Officers and Members will organise the labour.

5) Applied for membership of the B&Q re-use scheme via “Neighbourly”. We have been accepted for that scheme and expect to receive surplus (free of charge) plants, compost, paint, timber and tools for the good and benefit of all allotment holders.

6) Built a new website for the Society (this was necessary to achieve verification by Neighbourly and also our application for free compost).

7) Applied to Bolton Council for a site for the Society Polytunnel. Bolton Council have kindly offered a vacant plot (probably plot 1) free of charge as long as we require it. This plot will be run and maintained by the Society for the good and benefit of all allotment holders.

8) Reduced subs to £0. This is a necessary requirement should the Society bid for project funding (ASDA Foundation etc.).

9) Removed all obligations placed on the Society by the Operational Management Agreement. We believe the Agreement is seriously flawed and we will, in future, work with the Council on terms agreeable to both parties.

10) Appointed a show organiser, Mr Alan Saunders (Plot 2).
